How to Receive Our Services

NHCIA offers programming, including trips, events, and more, open to community members and individuals not receiving service from NHCIA. Anyone is welcome to join us for these programs. Contact our office or check our calendar for dates.

NHCIA can support people with an intellectual disability and their family to learn about the process of applying to receive service. We encourage those interested to call or visit our office to set up a meeting to find out more.

Children and youth under the age of 18 may be eligible to receive service through our Child and Family program and our Youth in Transition program. To learn more about these programs, contact our office.

For those over the age of 18 to receive service from NHCIA through our other programs, such as Supported Independent Living and Community Participation, individuals are to be registered with Developmental Services Ontario (DSO).

The DSO is the access point for adult developmental services, for individuals age 18 and older, funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) in Ontario.

Individuals may start the DSO intake process at the age of 16. Assessments will be completed to determine eligibility.

Your area DSO can help you:

  • Understand and complete the application process

  • Determine the kinds of services and supports you are eligible for

  • Get access to MCCSS funded services and supports once a spot is available

  • Find information in your community

To learn more about applying to the DSO visit their website or contact our office.
